We had gone back and forth all night on the ferry;
And you ate an apple, and I ate a pear,
From a dozen of each we had bought somewhere;
And the sky went wan, and the wind came cold,
And the sun rose dripping, a bucketful of gold."
-Edna St. Vincent Millay
Though I am staying in Greenpoint, Brookyln with my friends Jade and Andy and LOVING NYC!!! This experience reminds me of one of my very favorite poems, which I learned on the subway as a Barnard undergraduate -- reading Poetry In Motion. Enjoy!!!
Tonight we saw the lovely Lucy Lui in "God of Carnage" and ate a late and yummy dinner at the famed Carmine's. For lunch, I met with my editors at Pastis on 9th street and then, had the best tiramisu (which means "pick me up" in Italian!") with Alec on the upper east side -- a lovely Italian cafe -- called Via Quadrano.
Inspiring times...
And speaking of which, Jade and I began the day at an incredibly charming old school Polish Bakery in Greenpoint called, Peter Pan. Amaaaaazing chocolate cake doughnut -- and we listened to 3 old school Brooklyners who were talking like bad boys from high school.
And when one asked the rather round and friendly owner for more water, she responded, "He's like Joey -- he loves water."
Amaaaaaazing.
I am SO inspired in this city of mine. I am home.
More to come tomorrow!!!
Love... always...
p.s. I may have some HUGE breakthrough news!!! I shall let you all know ASAP.
